School Uniform and Dress Code
2018-2019 Kindergarten-Eighth Grade
Families choosing St. Ignatius School understand that our dress code uniforms help us achieve several outcomes for students.
1. Requiring uniforms sets a standard and expectation that students come ready to learn: students know from waking up that they need to put on their uniform because they are going to school. It underscores our purpose together.
2. Participating in this culture both cultivates and communicates discipline and self-confidence. It is a discipline to show up prepared each day. The uniform is a visible commitment to our purpose and readiness to be in the school environment.
3. As all students meet this expectation to attend, it helps create camaraderie and school spirit: you are a gator!
Please note: Many schools require one uniform from a specific buyer to ensure conformity, period. The detailed dress code at St. Ignatius is to grant as much support and flexibility to families as possible in selecting uniform items. The uniform exchange is also a great way to meet your uniform needs and is offered multiple times a year by Parent Association.
Changes for 2018-19
1. Sunday Best: Since mass will be offered for 3 out of 4 weeks next year, mass will require uniforms instead of “Sunday Best,” as in past years. Sunday Best may still be called for on extra special occasions.
2. School Spirit Days: Students will be invited to wear ‘Gator Gear (St. Ignatius branded items, CYO team shirts, Jog-a-Thon shirts, etc) with jeans when announced.
3. Bow Ties! After student request, we have a new option for a tie – bow tie, solid navy or Kirk plaid
4. Socks, tights and leggings must conform to dress code and be in white, navy, gray or black.
