Fourth Grade
Dear departing fourth grade students and families,
Thank you for sharing fourth grade with me. I had a lot of fun with you. Thank you for laughing at all of my jokes, even the really silly ones. Thank you for playing along with all of my crazy math stories. Thank you for dancing the triangle cha cha cha with me! You made teaching and learning math so much fun.
I enjoyed learning about the Oregon Trail with you. It was fun reading Bound for Oregon, watching you work so hard on your Oregon Trail games, and I loved watching how engaged you were when we were on the Oregon Trail.
I also loved watching you gobble up books, especially during the last quarter of the year when you could choose your own books from my guided reading collection. Some of you were coming to me for a new book practically every day!
I loved cooking and gardening with you! I don’t think I’ll ever forget making brown butter risotto with roasted parsnips, and how you gobbled up every last grain of rice and every morsel of parsnip. It was a blast watching you customize your own cornbread and then seeing the pride in your eyes when you got to take some muffins home to share with your family. Making and then customizing the ricotta cheese was also a highlight for me. I hope some of you will try making it at home. You can email me if you have questions or need advice. Digging up the potatoes and then replanting the little ones was also a highlight for me. I especially loved hearing about the creative ways you cooked the potatoes when you went home.
Throughout the year you all made me feel so loved and appreciated. One particular way you did this was the high fives I would get from all of you before and after I coached the Jazz kids for each performance. You made me feel like a rock star! What a gift you have been to me.
Have a wonderful summer vacation. Take time to just right read every day. See if you can squeeze in some math work on Freckle. Email me if you have any questions.
Don’t forget to say hi to me as you wander past my room from the fifth grade!
I will miss you!
