Fourth Grade
Welcome to fourth grade! My name is Hannah Green, and I have been teaching since 2021, mostly in Catholic schools. I believe passion is key to being a great educator, and I absolutely love what I do. My students can feel that enthusiasm, and it inspires their love of learning.
Fourth grade is a transformative year. Students shift from concrete thinking to abstract reasoning and take greater ownership of their academic work. There is emphasis on strengthening executive functioning skills such as organization, planning, and time management, becoming more confident and prepared learners. Here are some highlights in the curriculum of fourth grade at St. Ignatius School:
Catechesis: Faith and values are intentionally woven throughout the day using core Ignatian Jesuit principles that encourage reflection, compassion, and service to others. We focus on caring for the whole person across all subjects. Students have weekly guided exploration of Virtus Magazine, featuring relevant Catholic news; magazines are sent home with optional family activities. Monthly visits from the priests are a meaningful and exciting experience for the fourth graders.
Service Project: Protecting Our Neighborhood Critters
Students create winter infographics to educate their neighbors and family members on helping local wildlife. In the spring, students design and build bird feeders to give to others, sparking joy in the community.
Language Arts: Our Language Arts program is both rigorous and engaging, fostering strong readers, writers, and thinkers. Fourth graders are transforming from learning to read to reading to learn.
