Seventh Grade
The seventh grade year is a lot of fun. We share our stories, focus ourselves on academic quality, build friendships and do it all remembering that we are in the loving presence of the Holy Spirit.
RELIGION
In our seventh grade program, we offer an engaging exploration of the New Testament, focusing on the life and teachings of Jesus. We create an enriching learning environment that not only educates but also fosters a deeper spiritual connection.
- We delve into the historical and cultural context of Jesus's life, providing a comprehensive understanding of his teachings.
- Students analyze the four gospels, each unique in its perspective and theological theme.
- We examine Jesus's parables, extracting and discussing the messages and lessons in each story.
- Students learn about the Sacraments, crucial to the Catholic faith, and understand the role of the seven Sacraments in fostering a closer relationship with God.
- The program also includes practice of various forms of prayer, such as meditation, contemplation, and vocal prayer, helping students recognize the role of prayer in their spiritual lives.

- Explore the Earth's atmosphere and ocean, learning about weather patterns, ocean currents
- Understand the impact of human activity on these systems
- Gain an appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the world around us
MATH
The class, as the year before, begins the year with an assessment and is split into two groups. The advanced group, with Mrs. Boyle as their teacher, completes 8th grade math standards in preparation of completing Algebra in 8th grade. The second group works through the regular seventh grade math material studying pre-algebra.
ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS (ELA)
English is a combination of the study of grammar and its application in writing.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Welcome to seventh grade social studies!
In seventh grade students will explore the Eastern Hemisphere through the physical and political geography, history, and cultures of Africa, Asia, and Europe. The goal for students in seventh grade is to begin to make connections between the Eastern and Western Hemisphere historical events. Students will continue to apply the five geographic themes to historical events and current news. Seventh graders are introduced to historical thinking skills and begin to analyze primary source documents. Seventh graders build on their learning of government structures and economic theories and begin to analyze the lasting effects in regions of the world.
Students read and discuss current news through Jr. Scholastic magazines. The seventh graders will work independently and practice collaboration in small groups. Over the course of a school year students will create presentations about a Renaissance historical figure, label historical and current maps, and apply essential questions to regions of the world to identify the change and continuity of time in that region. Students will participate in historical simulations, mock trials, and Socratic seminars.
READING
The reading text for seventh grade is The Language of Literature. Units covered include fiction, nonfiction, mythology, and fantasy. Students are expected to complete 125 minutes of independent reading per week. To link with social studies, they read novels set in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
NIGHT OF THE NOTABLES
Welcome to the Night of the Notables, a unique and engaging event in seventh grade that offers students the opportunity to delve deep into the lives of significant historical figures. This transformative educational experience is more than just a research project; it's a journey into the heart of history, a chance to explore the accomplishments of influential individuals, and an opportunity to develop critical thinking and creativity.
- Students start by selecting a notable person and undertaking thorough research into their life and achievements.
- This research forms the basis for a comprehensive outline and essay about the individual.
- After the essay is complete, students design a learning center that highlights their chosen notable's accomplishments.
- The culminating activity is a prepared speech about their notable, delivered on the Night of the Notables.
