A special thank you to Mr. Auer and our teachers for making student centered videos for their grade level this week in preparation for our “Love In Deed” virtual event. The fifth graders had a grand time interviewing Fr. Mike Moynahan. Tune in on Saturday, February 26th at 7:00 PM to see all of the fun videos. We can hardly wait for our families and extended families to see our
students shine. Each and every day our students are developing eager minds, passionate hearts, enthusiastic spirits, and brilliant futures. Our “Love In Deed” virtual, interactive event will help us build community while fundraising for our school into the next year. If you are interested in being a sponsor for this event, please let the office know. Class themed baskets, along with activity buy-ins with the school staff will be featured in an online silent auction in the days leading up to the fundraiser. Thank you for your fantastic basket donations this week! The baskets are sure to be amazing. Procurement donations need to be received by next Friday, February 4th in our school office. The first batch of free dress passes for families donating items to the themed class baskets were sent home today! When your family contribution is received in the school office, your family name will be entered into a prize raffle. This week and next week one family name will be drawn and that family will receive a basket of St. Ignatius swag including glassware, coasters, and a gift certificate to Papa Murphy’s.. Our first raffle winner is the Stovall family! As the COVID cases surge due to the Omicron variant, we are grateful for our students and families working together to hold strong to our many layers of mitigation. We strongly encourage students to wear a KN95 or N95 or double-mask with a surgical mask under a cloth mask. Please let us know if we can help your family meet this expectation. It is a good idea to send your student to school with two or three masks, so they may change masks as needed after recess or PE. Please continue to test your student five days after notification of a case in your student’s cohort. Remember to keep your test receipts for possible reimbursement through your health insurance company. You may order free tests as well. Please remember proper masking in and out of school and maintaining social distancing are the best ways to keep our school community safe. Monday, January 31st is the FACTS deadline to apply for tuition assistance for the 2022-2023 school year. If your family would like to be considered for tuition assistance, please update your information in FACTS and apply for financial aid for the 2022-2023 school year. As we prepare to celebrate Catholic schools and the impact they have had on our youth for generations, may we hold St. Ignatius School in our prayers for many years ahead of providing a faith-based Catholic education to students from across cultures. “Happy the one who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.” Proverbs 3:13 Carol Pausz Principal Our students enjoyed a fun time playing Bingo with their 8th grade Family Group leaders calling the numbers over Google Meet. Our gator mascot made a brief appearance in the classrooms as the kids played bingo! Each and every day our students are developing eager minds, passionate hearts, enthusiastic spirits, and brilliant
futures. Spread the word about our wonderful school. Next week, we will host a virtual Open House information night on Thursday, January 27th from 6:30 PM -8:00 PM. On Sunday, March 6th, after the 10:30 AM Mass, families interested in sending their children to St. Ignatius School may tour the school from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM. Please follow our school on LinkedIn. Each week one family name will be drawn and that family will receive a basket of St. Ignatius swag including glassware, coasters, and a gift card, plus a shoutout in the Ignatian! As the COVID cases surge due to the Omicron variant, we are grateful for our students and families working together to hold strong to our many layers of mitigation. The CDC has recently suggested upgrading from a cloth mask to a KN95 or N95 mask for better protection as proper masking continues to be an effective mitigation strategy. Please remember proper masking in and out of school and maintaining social distancing are the best ways to keep our school community safe. We are blessed that our school’s vaccination rate is currently 87% of our school population. Senate Bill 197 is a new law that went into effect on January 1, 2022. The purpose of this law is to apply current laws on teen dating violence (grades 7-12), domestic violence, and sexual harassment to all schools, including private schools. All schools, both public and private, are required to create policies, establish procedures for the manner in which school employees are to respond to incidents, training of staff, education of students in grades 7 - 12, and displaying of posters in English and Spanish regarding domestic violence resources. A discussion has been started with the teachers at a recent staff meeting regarding this new law and expectations on schools. We anticipate the posters will be displayed in our middle school hallway and classrooms. May our faith give us peace, hope, and strength as we work together to build a just and compassionate world. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 Carol Pausz Principal Our students continue to develop eager minds, passionate hearts, enthusiastic spirits, and brilliant futures each and every day. Our prayer service this week celebrated the inspirational Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how his life’s work is now our work through our Mission statement.
January brings Open House season for Catholic schools. We have made a couple of adjustments to our event. This year, we will host a virtual Open House information night on Thursday, January 27th from 6:30 PM -7:30 PM. If your family would like to be considered for tuition assistance, please update your information in FACTS and apply for financial aid for the 2022-2023 school year. Please SAVE THE DATE of Saturday, February 26th for our “Love In Deed” Fundraiser. In late January and early February, we will offer some after school program options for families with middle school students. As of now, we will offer two Saturday Academy classes: Digital Photography and Lego Robotics. We will also offer a Chess America class. Muse Band may return to our campus as an after school program as well. Each after school program provider sets a minimum number of registered students for after school programs to operate. With our students largely vaccinated and likely boostered by then and vaccinated instructors, this will provide a possible option for our older students allowing parents a later pick-up time and students to engage in a variety of interests. Our afterschool programs will follow the same layers of mitigation we have in place during the school day. As the COVID cases surge due to the Omicron variant, guidance for how to respond to positive cases in our schools is in a perpetual state of change. Thank you for your patience as we weather this round of the pandemic together. The Oregon Department of Education has updated guidance for quarantine and isolation for positive cases and close contacts. Our school sent a letter earlier this week detailing the updated guidance and outlined the ways our school will work with those guidelines. The CDC has recently suggested upgrading from a cloth mask to a KN95 or N95 mask for better protection as proper masking continues to be an effective mitigation strategy. Please remember proper masking in and out of school and maintaining social distancing are the best ways to keep our community safe both in and out of school. We are blessed that our school’s vaccination rate is currently 87% of our school population. As we discern ways we can use our gifts and talents to build a just and compassionate world, may we be inspired to act. “Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6. “For you, Lord, give light to my lamp; my God brightens my darkness.” Carol Pausz Principal All week long the students have been so happy to be back in school, and it has been a joy to welcome them back as we kick off 2022! Our kindergarten class created a beautiful Epiphany prayer service for us this week, and our first graders paraded down the hallway reminding us of the wonderful Feast of the Epiphany. Thank you for helping our students to follow our uniform expectations, so we can celebrate with a theme dress day in the coming weeks.

Our after school programs will follow the same layers of mitigation we have in place during the school day. We have two reminders for our families. The first reminder is to please refrain from parking close to our school beyond the cones before 5:00 PM. Our preschool and aftercare programs use the playground and the area between the building and the playground until 5:00 PM most days. The second reminder is to refrain from playing on the grass by the parish offices. With COVID protocols, the windows of the parish office are open during meetings which take place in the room closest to the grassy area between the church and parish offices buildings. Thank you for your assistance with these two items. As the COVID cases surge due to the Omicron variant, guidance for how to respond to positive cases in our schools is in a perpetual state of change. Thank you for your patience as we weather this round of the pandemic together. The Oregon Department of Education is actively working with various local health authorities on updating quarantine guidance for close contact exposures along with some other possible suggested changes to current protocols. As new ODE recommended guidelines are released, our COVID team will meet to discuss recommendations and determine possible changes to our school’s protocols. Any changes to our protocols or quarantine guidance will be shared with families as soon as possible. Please remember proper masking and maintaining social distancing are the best ways to keep our community safe both in and out of school. May we take time this weekend to welcome Father Mike at his installation Mass on Sunday, January 9th at 10:30 AM. “After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove coming upon him.” John 3:16 Carol Pausz Principal |
