Greetings St. Ignatius Families,

2/18/2022

Our silent auction will be live on Tuesday, February 22nd! The “Love In Deed” baskets are amazing!  There will be many wonderful options to bid on during the silent auction leading up to our live event next week. Have you considered hosting a watch party among your family friends or with your extended family? Watch parties can provide a fun way to participate in this interactive live virtual fundraising event. There will be an opportunity to play a watch and win game or two during the live event on Saturday, February 26th at 7:00 PM. Please pre-register by Wednesday for our “Love In Deed” event. Classes that have 75% or more families register by Wednesday will earn a class free dress day on Friday, February 25th!

In the ever changing landscape of COVID, we heard last week Oregon will likely drop mask mandates by March 31st, returning mask protocols to the local level. Our school’s COVID team met this week to discuss current  recommendations from ODE and our LPHA in regards to masking to determine the safest way for our school to proceed through the spring. With our current vaccination rate of 93% and Omicron receding, we feel the following updates to our current protocols are timely. The updates to our COVID protocols we will implement beginning on March 1st include:
  • Optional outdoor masking
  • Allowing for mixing of student cohorts in the outdoor setting only, as this will allow for outdoor family group activities
  • Vaccinated parent volunteers in the school for specific projects. Must be up-to-date on C.A.S.E. training and submit proof of vaccination.
  • Returning to church for school prayer services and Masses, limiting the number of grades and alternating weekly
We will still eat outside at a distance as the weather allows. All indoor protocols will remain in place for now. Our COVID team will continue to meet monthly to evaluate the latest recommendations from our LPHA and ODE to determine when and if further protocols may be adjusted. We can see our many layers of mitigation have kept our school community safe throughout this school year so far.

As we prepare to return to church weekly as a school, we will ease back in starting with multiple Ash Wednesday prayer services to allow for all students in kindergarten through eighth grade to attend one service. Two classes at a time plus nine eighth grade students will attend a thirty minute prayer service once during Ash Wednesday.
Ashes will be sprinkled on the top of the head to avoid touching. Our school will participate in the Novena of Grace by grade level in the classroom with each class watching one assigned, recorded service. Students attending the Novena of Grace in person with their family will not be considered tardy. Through March and April, two-three classes will attend school Masses at a time giving nearly all of the classes an opportunity to attend an in person Mass once during Lent. Hopefully, the remaining students will be able to watch the school Mass live streamed from their classrooms each week.

We are working on kind, respectful behavior with and between our students. We are reminding our students to clean up after themselves during lunch outside by picking up garbage and spilled foods. We ask students to use school appropriate language at all times. We remind students to not take hats from each other. We expect respectful communication with staff and between students. Please have follow-up conversations at
home regarding these expectations.

“Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7

Greetings St. Ignatius Families,

2/11/2022

Thank you for your tremendous partnership with us in providing a faith-based education for your children. Please help us to manage Valentine’s Day during a COVID year by sending in only the Valentines without candy attached. Students may choose to wear school appropriate clothing in Valentine’s Day colors of red, white, or purple on Monday, or students may wear their uniform. Jeans, slacks, or joggers are ok, but please refrain from wearing leggings as pants. Thank you for helping your student to choose school appropriate clothing.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the families that have donated for our “Love In Deed” baskets!  There will be many wonderful options to bid on during the silent auction leading up to our live event. Have you considered hosting a watch party among your school family friends or with your extended family? Watch parties can provide a fun way to participate in this interactive live virtual fundraising event. There will be an opportunity to play a watch and win game or two during the live event on Saturday, February 26th at 7:00 PM. Please register to participate in the silent auction and live event. Classes that have 75% or more families register for the event by Wednesday, February 23rd will have a class free dress day on Friday, February 25th!

Well, in the ever changing landscape of COVID, we heard this week about many states, including Oregon dropping mask mandates and returning those decisions to the local level. For schools, the Oregon Department of Education and our Local Health Authority will likely make recommendations for best practice in schools just
as they have for social distancing, which has not been a mandate since the beginning of this year. Our school’s COVID team will meet next week to discuss current recommendations from ODE and our LPHA to determine the safest way for our school to proceed through the spring. We can see our many layers of mitigation have kept our school community safe throughout this school year so far. We still recommend students wear a KN95 or N95 or surgical mask while at school. Please let us know if we can help your family meet this masking expectation. It is a good idea to send your student to school with two or three masks, so they may change masks as needed after recess or PE. Please remember proper masking in and out of school and maintaining social distancing are the best ways to keep our school community safe.

Next week, we will share news about how we will safely return to school Masses and prayer services in the church beginning on Ash Wednesday.  We are excited to announce a return to providing meals once a week for Transition Projects. We will take on this endeavor as an ongoing whole school  service project. A separate letter will go home today with more details on how families may participate in this important service project tradition.

May you take time this weekend to enjoy God’s many blessings. ”Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his mercy endures forever.” Psalm 118:1.

Greetings St. Ignatius Families,

Greetings St. Ignatius Families,

During our Catholic School’s Week, we prayed for students by name four times each day to fit everyone in over the week. On Tuesday, our students wrote notes or drew pictures for their Family Group Members. We ended our Catholic School’s Week with a PJ day Read-In which the students all enjoyed. During our Catholic School’s Week, we raised money through a coin contest for Jean’s Place, a women’s shelter. The sixth class brought in the most money at $ 344.85, followed closely by Mr. Beseau’s eighth grade class with $ 257.93 and Mrs. Olson’s eighth grade class with $ 228.44  Honorable mention for our first grade class of eleven students raising $171.46. Our whole school raised $ 1,729.39 for Jean’s Place. WAY TO GO, GATORS!!!

A special thank you to Mr. Beseau and Mr. Roberts for editing our “Love In Deed”videos this week. Have you considered hosting a watch party among your school family friends or with your extended family? Watch parties can provide a fun way to participate in this interactive virtual fundraising event. There will be an opportunity to play a watch and win game or two during the live event! Next week, we will send out information for early registration. Tune in on Saturday, February 26th at 7:00 PM to join the party! Who will you watch with? In the days leading up to our “Love In Deed”  virtual, interactive event, there will be an online silent auction with themed baskets and activity buy-ins with various school staff. Thank you for all of the amazing donations this week. Free dress passes have gone home with the students for this week’s procurements. This week’s raffle winner for a swag bag is the Bartels-Halligan family from our kindergarten class.

As the COVID cases recede from the Omicron variant, we are grateful for our students and families working together to hold strong to our many layers of mitigation. We strongly encourage students to wear a KN95 or N95 or double-mask with a surgical mask under a cloth mask. Please let us know if we can help your family meet this expectation. It is a good idea to send your student to school with two or three masks, so they may change masks as needed after recess or PE. Please remember proper masking in and out of school and maintaining social distancing are the best ways to keep our school community safe. Thank you for refraining from parking past the cones near the playground until after 5:00 PM when our preschool has closed for the day and our aftercare program is no longer playing outside. We appreciate all of the ways you help your students practice kindness during their activities outside of the school day.

May you take time this weekend to connect with others in peaceful ways.”Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do.”  Collosians 3:12-13

family!

As the COVID cases surge due to the Omicron variant, we are grateful for our students and families working together to hold strong to our many layers of mitigation. We strongly encourage students to wear a KN95 or N95 or double-mask with a surgical mask under a cloth mask. Please let us know if we can help your family meet this expectation. It is a good idea to send your  student to school with two or three masks, so they may change masks as needed after recess or PE. Please continue to test your student five days after notification of a case in your student’s cohort. Remember to keep your test receipts for possible reimbursement through your health insurance company. You may order free tests as well. Please remember proper masking in and out of school and maintaining social distancing are the best ways to keep our school community safe.

Monday, January 31st is the FACTS deadline to apply for tuition assistance for the 2022-2023 school year. If your family would like to be considered for tuition assistance, please update your information in FACTS and apply for financial aid for the 2022-2023 school year.  As we prepare to celebrate Catholic schools and the impact they have had on our youth for generations, may we hold St. Ignatius School in our prayers for many years ahead of providing a faith-based Catholic education to students from across cultures. “Happy the one who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.” Proverbs 3:13

Our students enjoyed a fun time playing Bingo with their 8th grade Family Group leaders calling the numbers over Google Meet. Our gator mascot made a brief appearance in the classrooms as the kids played bingo! Each and every day our students are developing eager minds, passionate hearts, enthusiastic spirits, and brilliant
futures.

Spread the word about our wonderful school. Next week, we will host a virtual Open House information night on Thursday, January 27th from 6:30 PM -8:00 PM. On Sunday, March 6th, after the 10:30 AM Mass, families interested in sending their children to St. Ignatius School may tour the school from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM.
Please follow our school on LinkedIn.

Remember- January 31st is the FACTS deadline to apply for tuition assistance for the 2022-2023 school year. If your family would like to be considered for tuition assistance, please update your information in FACTS and apply for financial aid for the 2022-2023 school year.

Our “Love In Deed” virtual event is coming soon on Saturday, February 26th at 7:00 PM. This fun, virtual, interactive event will help us build community while fundraising for our school budget for next year. If you are interested in being a sponsor for this event, please let the office know.Thank you for helping support our silent action with basket donations! Remember, families donating items to the themed class baskets will be given one free dress pass per student in their household. When your family contribution is received in the school office, your family name will be entered into a  weekly prize raffle. Each week one family name will be drawn and that family will receive a basket of St. Ignatius swag including glassware, coasters, and a gift card, plus a shoutout in the Ignatian!

As the COVID cases surge due to the Omicron variant, we are grateful for  our students and families working together to hold strong to our many layers of mitigation. The CDC has recently suggested upgrading from a cloth mask to a KN95 or N95 mask for better protection as proper masking continues to be an effective mitigation strategy.  Please remember proper masking in and out of school and maintaining social distancing are the best
ways to keep our school community safe. We are blessed that our school’s vaccination rate is currently 87% of our school population.

Senate Bill 197 is a new law that went into effect on January 1, 2022. The purpose of this law is to apply current laws on teen dating violence (grades 7-12), domestic violence, and sexual harassment to all schools, including private schools. All schools, both public and private, are required to create policies, establish procedures for the manner in which school employees are to respond to incidents, training of staff, education of students in grades 7 - 12, and displaying of posters in English and Spanish regarding domestic violence resources. A discussion has been started with the teachers at a recent staff meeting regarding this new law and expectations on schools. We anticipate the posters will be displayed in our middle school hallway and classrooms.

May our faith give us peace, hope, and strength as we work together to build a just and compassionate world.  “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

Greetings St. Ignatius Families,

Our students continue to develop eager minds, passionate hearts, enthusiastic spirits, and brilliant futures each and every day. Our prayer service this week celebrated the inspirational Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how his life’s work is now our work through our Mission statement.

January brings Open House season for Catholic schools. We have made a couple of adjustments to our event. This year, we will host a virtual Open House information night on Thursday, January 27th from 6:30 PM -7:30 PM. After the 10:30 Mass on Sunday, March 6th  families interested in sending their children to St. Ignatius School may tour the school from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM. Spread the word to your friends and family about our loving  school community! We have recently created a LinkedIn page for our school. Please consider ‘following’ our school on LinkedIn.

In late January and early February, we will offer some after school program options for families with middle school students. As of now, we will offer two Saturday Academy classes: Digital Photography and Lego Robotics. We will also offer a Chess America class. Muse Band may return to our campus as an after school program as well. Each after school program provider sets a minimum number of registered students for after school programs to operate. With our students largely vaccinated and likely boostered by then and vaccinated instructors, this will provide a possible option for our older students allowing parents a later pick-up time and students to engage in a variety of interests. Our afterschool programs will follow the same layers of
mitigation we have in place during the school day.

As the COVID cases surge due to the Omicron variant, guidance for how to respond to positive cases in our schools is in a perpetual state of change. Thank you for your patience as we weather this round of the pandemic together. The Oregon Department of Education has updated guidance for quarantine and isolation for positive cases and close contacts. Our school sent a letter earlier this week detailing the updated guidance and outlined the ways our school will work with those guidelines. The CDC has recently suggested upgrading from a cloth mask to a KN95 or N95 mask for better protection as proper masking continues to be an effective  mitigation strategy.  Please remember proper masking in and out of school and maintaining social distancing are the best ways to keep our community safe both in and out of school. We are blessed that our school’s vaccination rate is currently 87% of our school population.

As we discern ways we can use our gifts and talents to build a just and compassionate world, may we be inspired to act.  “Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6. “For you, Lord, give light to my lamp; my God brightens my darkness.”

Greetings St. Ignatius Families,

1/7/2022

All week long the students have been so happy to be back in school, and it has been a joy to welcome them back as we kick off 2022! Our kindergarten class created a beautiful Epiphany prayer service for us this week, and our first graders paraded down the hallway reminding us of the wonderful Feast of  the Epiphany. Thank you for helping our students to follow our uniform expectations, so we can celebrate with a theme dress day in the coming weeks.

We have two reminders for our families. The first reminder is to please refrain from parking close to our school beyond the cones before 5:00 PM. Our preschool and aftercare programs use the playground and the area between the building and the playground until 5:00 PM most days. The second reminder is to refrain from playing on the grass by the parish offices. With COVID protocols, the windows of the parish office are open during meetings which take place in the room closest to the grassy area between the church and parish offices buildings. Thank you for your assistance with these two items.

May we take time this weekend to welcome Father Mike at his installation Mass on Sunday, January 9th at 10:30 AM.  “After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove coming upon him.” John 3:16

Greetings St. Ignatius Families,

12/20/2021

Our Christmas program debuted last night and will air again on Sunday, December 19th at 2:00 PM on our school’s YouTube channel. The link has been sent in a separate email.

We are so proud of the amazing growth our students have made with in-person learning in the first trimester. Our STAR testing scores show our students have deepened their skills in both reading and math. If you have not already done so, please view your child’s report card on SchoolSpeak, and electronically sign it. If you need a hard copy of the report card to view and sign, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.

The school's readers have stepped up again this year to participate in the Oregon Battle of the Books. We have nine teams across four grade levels! Each team reads the 16 books on the OBOB list and then has fun answering trivia-style questions about each book in battles against each other. In early March, our school's top teams will compete with other local schools in the region! Go SIS Readers!

January 31st is the FACTS deadline to apply for tuition assistance for the 2022-2023 school year. If your family would like to be considered for tuition assistance, please update your information in FACTS and apply for financial aid for the 2022-2023 school year.

When we return in January, in addition to our monthly fire drills, we will begin having other safety drills for Earthquake, Shelter in Place, and Lockdown. We take great care to help the students understand safety drills. Safety drills help all of us to be prepared to stay safe in any possible emergency situation. We are blessed to be part of a loving, faith-filled community.

January brings Open House season for Catholic schools. This year, we will host a virtual Open House information night on Thursday, January 20th from 6:30 PM -7:30 PM. After the 10:30 Mass on Sunday, January 23rd, families interested in sending their children to St. Ignatius School may tour the school from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM. Spread the word to your friends and family about our loving school community!

Please SAVE THE DATE of Saturday, February 28th for our “Love In Deed” Fundraiser.  This virtual, interactive event will help us build community while fundraising for our school budget into the next year.

In late January and early February, we will offer some after school program options for families with middle school students. As of now, we will offer two Saturday Academy classes: Digital Photography and Lego Robotics. We will also offer a Chess America class. Muse Band will return to our campus as an afterschool program as well. Each after school program provider sets a minimum number of registered students for afterschool programs to operate. With our students largely vaccinated and vaccinated instructors, this will provide a possible option for our older students allowing parents a later pick-up time and students to engage in a variety of interests.

In January, our staff will focus on the following uniform guidelines:
  • Proper sizing of clothing
  • Wearing non-uniform sweatshirts only outside as a coat
  • No hoop or dangling earrings
  • No raised adornments on headbands such as cat ears
  • Velcro shoes for students in kindergarten through second grade, if the student cannot tie his/her own shoes yet
If your student is out of uniform, we will notify you via email, and we may ask them to remove the non-uniform item or change into a school provided uniform piece of clothing. Please help us with these guidelines as we come back into uniform codes in January. We may consider a special theme dress day in late January or early February to celebrate the students’ following the uniform guidelines.

At the Feaste of the Nativity on Saturday, our School Advisory Council sold a little over half of the snowmen and Christmas tree ornaments available for sale. The snowmen sold raised $350 for the playground renovation fund. The Christmas tree ornaments sold raised $680 for refinishing the gym floor. In addition, the raffle raised $7,140 in matching funds for the playground renovation project. The church donation from the raffle back to the school will be forthcoming in January. Congratulations to the raffle winners. The top raffle winner was the Diss family, followed by the Nguyen, Jones, and McDermitt families.

As the Christmas holidays are upon us, please adhere to our school's  travel recommendations. We strongly recommend our families follow the CDC guidelines on safe traveling. If your traveling over the holidays is close to our return to school date on Tuesday, January 4th and through an airport or to a heavily populated tourist destination with unvaccinated children, we strongly recommend that you quarantine your unvaccinated child(ren) for a full seven days upon return and take a rapid COVID test 3-5 days after returning. Fully vaccinated students will not need to quarantine upon return from traveling at this time. As a school community, we really must work together on the CDC travel guidance, especially over the holiday season.

The Oregon Department of Education is actively working with various local health authorities on updating quarantine guidance for close contact exposures along with some other possible suggested changes to current protocols. Once the new ODE recommended guidelines are finalized, we will review what we will implement as a school and provide families with an update at that time. Please remember proper masking and maintaining social distancing are the best ways to keep our community safe both in and out of school. We are beyond thrilled to hear how excited our younger students are as many of them are already receiving their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. If you are looking for possible walk-in clinics for your child, we have compiled a resource list for you.

May this Christmas season fill your heart with joy and wonder. “And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.”
John 1:14

From our hearts to yours, we wish you a blessed and joyful Christmas season!

Greetings St. Ignatius Families,

12/12/2021

We had a visit from a special guest on Monday as we celebrated the Feast of St. Nicholas this week. The students were so excited to participate in this time honored event! This coming Monday,  December 13th,  students may come to school dressed in their Christmas Sunday Best as classes will be videotaped for our virtual Christmas program. The Christmas program will debut on Thursday, December 16th at 7:00 PM and again on Sunday, December 19th at 2:00 PM.

As report cards are now available on SchoolSpeak, let us take a moment to appreciate the hard
work of our students and teachers for all of the learning that has taken place so far this school year!
When you view your child’s report card on SchoolSpeak, please electronically sign it too. If you
need a hard copy of the report card to view and sign, please reach out to your child’s classroom
teacher.
Please note a change to our school calendar from the Archdiocese of Portland Catholic Schools
Department. As a thank you to all Catholic school staff for their perseverance and dedication to
Catholic education during these challenging times, Monday, January 3rd has been given to Catholic
Schools as a day off to show appreciation for all school employees. Therefore, we will resume
school after winter break on Tuesday, January 4th.

January 31st is the FACTS deadline to apply for tuition assistance for the 2022-2023 school year. If
your family would like to be considered for tuition assistance in the upcoming school year, please
update your information in FACTS and apply for financial aid for the 2022-2023 school year.
At the Feaste of the Nativity on Saturday, our School Advisory Council will host a table. Our SAC
members will sell two crafts to benefit our playground renovation and gym floor refinishing. The first
craft is a Christmas tree ornament made from the floorboard wood that was taken out of the gym
due to water damage from last winter’s storm. Some of our eighth grade students helped to
decorate those ornaments. Proceeds from the Christmas Tree ornament sale will help to cover the
cost of refinishing our gym floor including the lines and mascot logo.  Our third grade class made
adorable snowmen out of the wood rounds from the tree cut down in our prayer garden in 2019. The
proceeds from the snowmen will benefit our playground renovation project.

There will be a raffle at the Feaste of the Nativity with the top prize of $1000. Only 1,000 tickets will
be sold for this raffle. Thank you to the many families that sold tickets. An anonymous donor has
stepped up to match dollar for dollar the amount of raffle tickets we sell. If we were able to sell all
1,000 tickets, the matching donation would be $10,000! A portion of the proceeds from the raffle
plus the full matching gift will be donated back to the school to benefit the playground renovation
project.  On Giving Tuesday, we raised $4,490 dollars for our playground renovation project. Thank
you to the many families and extended families supporting our school projects!
Please continue to use the home health screening questions before coming to school each day.  As
the Christmas holidays are approaching, please adhere to our travel recommendations. As a school,
we strongly recommend our families follow the CDC guidelines on safe traveling. If you will be
traveling, through an airport and/or to a heavily populated tourist destination with your children, and
they are not fully vaccinated, we strongly recommend that you quarantine your unvaccinated child
for a full seven days upon return and take a rapid COVID test 3-5 days after returning. As a school
community, we really must work together on the CDC travel guidance, especially over the holiday
season. Thank you to the families that have partnered with us to keep our school community safe
from future COVID cases by following this guidance after their recent travels.

Cont.
The Oregon Department of Education is actively working with our local health authority on updating quarantine
guidance for close contact exposures. We will review the proposed guidelines with our COVID team next week
and hope to share an update in the beginning of January. Please remember proper masking and maintaining so-
cial distancing are the best ways to keep our community safe both in and out of school. We are beyond thrilled to
hear how excited our younger students are as many of them are already receiving their second dose of the
COVID-19 vaccine. If you are looking for possible walk-in clinics for your child, we have compiled a resource list
for you.
Please do not drop off restaurant food items for your students during the school day. We have an emergency
lunch and snack supply to help feed students on those days when lunch or snacks are forgotten, and you are
unable to bring store bought food items from home. Please remind your students chewing gum is not allowed on
campus. Let’s keep our campus beautiful!

Our students continue to learn and grow during the month of December. Our preschoolers are making Advent
wreaths and Christmas trees in addition to cutting shapes developing their fine motor skills. In kindergarten, our
students are finishing their hallway nativity scene and making their own nativity scenes with empty tissue paper
rolls. The first graders created a lovely prayer service about the Immaculate Conception of Mary and made beau-
tifully glittered Christmas trees. Our second grade students are learning to tell time on an analog clock and talk-
ing about family traditions. The third graders are crafting strong topic sentences and writing paragraphs. In fourth
grade, our students are learning long division with remainders. The fifth graders are writing persuasive essays
about getting a pet. Our sixth grade students are studying plot lines through literature circles.  The seventh grad-
ers are participating in a model United Nations process to discuss an imaginary world issue. Our eighth graders
continue to learn about force and motion as they engineer balloon-powered planes and baskets.
May we continue to joyfully prepare our hearts for the coming of our Savior in this third week of Advent. For God
who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to bring to light the knowledge of the glory of
God on the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6

Peace be with you,

Greetings St. Ignatius Families,

12/3/2021

Thank you to our amazing, generous families for the overflowing Advent gift bags for Community Transition School. What a wonderful way to support children experiencing homelessness in our community.

We have begun the second window of STAR testing which will continue through next week. Please help your child(ren) to eat a healthy breakfast and get plenty of sleep. STAR testing results will be sent home before Christmas break.

As the Feaste of the Nativity approaches on December 11th, our School Advisory Council will host a table at this outdoor event. If your family chooses to attend this event, you may find the SAC table and choose to purchase either of two crafts available. The first craft is a Christmas tree ornament made from the floorboard wood that was taken out of the gym due to water damage from last winter’s storm. Some of our eighth grade students helped to decorate those ornaments. Proceeds from the Christmas Tree ornament sale will help to cover the cost of refinishing our gym floor including the lines and mascot logo.  Our third grade class made adorable snowmen out of the wood rounds from the tree cut down in our prayer garden in 2019. There will be a raffle at the Feaste of the Nativity with the top prize of $1000. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold for this raffle. We have sent home raffle tickets to sell, if you so choose, as part of your fairshare commitment. Thank you to the many families that have sold those tickets and requested more. An anonymous donor has stepped up to match dollar for dollar the amount of raffle tickets we sell. If we are able to sell all 1,000 tickets, the matching donation would be $10,000! Therefore, please return any unsold tickets as soon as possible, so they may be given to another family in need of more tickets to sell. Proceeds from the raffle will be donated back to the school to benefit  the playground renovation project .  We hope to have final numbers from Giving Tuesday to share in next week’s Ignatian.

Our students continue to learn and grow during the month of December.  Our preschoolers are painting snowflakes, filling Christmas stockings, and writing or drawing Christmas cards. In kindergarten, our students are coloring Advent candles for their wreaths and working on their letter sounds. The first graders continued a long tradition this week as they tied a small bell to one shoe plus crafted their Advent chains. Our second grade students studied The Legend of the Poinsettia by Tomie dePaola and made poinsettia art in addition to their Advent wreaths. The third graders are learning their multiplication tables through familiar tunes such as Jingle Bell 3’s and Old MacDonald 4’s. In fourth grade, our students are making billboard advertisements for the High Desert region of Oregon as they study the regions of the state. The fifth graders are computing and comparing decimals. Our sixth grade students are creating silly stories based on a family or school rule modeling their writing off of the book The Secret Knowledge of Grown-Ups. The seventh graders are writing a reflection about their own saints. Our eighth graders are studying about the Vatican and ecumenical councils.

May we continue to prepare our hearts for the coming of our Savior in this second week of Advent.
